In this article, we've compiled some common questions about LED strip lighting and how to install under-cabinet lighting.
What are the basic materials required for the application of my LED light strip under cabinet?
The LED lighting kit under a cabinet can be purchased to include a plug-in and playback LED strip, a touch-tone dimmer, remote control, 12V power supply and connecting accessories. If you want to build a custom suite, follow the steps at the bottom of the diagram to make sure you get everything you need.

1. Determine the required LED strip length
When installing LED strips in projects under cabinets, cover the length of the area to be illuminated. If a gap is left where the ribbon is not installed, the area where the light breaks will appear. A simple way to avoid this is to use a tape measure or extend a string along the area you want to light up, and then measure the string. You can also measure more than just the space under the cabinet. For example, if you have a window above your sink, the space under the windowsill is a good place to install LED strips (as long as you have a flat surface at least an inch wide that is parallel to the counter). 2. Select power supply
To facilitate the selection of the appropriate power supply for the LED strip length, we provide a power calculator tool on the product page for each LED strip under the power TAB. Using this tool, you can select the LED strip to use and enter the number of inches that will be used for the application, which will extract a series of compatible power supplies.
If you want to do your own calculations, use the following information. To ensure that the power supply is not overworked, make sure that the total power of the strip is at least 20% lower than the power rating. A simple way to do this is to multiply the total wattage of the strip by 1.2. The strip power data is available under the specifications TAB on the product page. For example, if your 16.4 foot strip consumes 58 watts of power, you can determine the power you need simply by multiplying 58 watts by 1.2 (58 x 1.2 = 69.6). A 100 watt (or higher) power supply will do!
If you use a strip of custom length, you need to calculate the wattage per foot. For example, if the 16.4 foot strip consumes 58 watts of total power, divide 58 by the number of feet in the strip (58/16.4 = 3.5) to determine the number of watts per foot. Next, you need to calculate the total power consumption by multiplying the wattage per foot by the total number of feet used. So if you use a 5-foot strip of 3.5 watts per foot, the total power consumption is equal to 17.5 (5 x 3.5). Finally, multiply the total wattage by 1.2 (17.5 x 1.2 = 21) to determine which power source to use. A 40 watt power supply is suitable for this length of strip.

3. Select dimmer or controller

Select a large enough power supply to operate the number of LED strips you need to use. If you want to control the brightness of the strip, you need a compatible dimmer. From the dimmer, run the wire to the location of the mounting strip. However, if a dimmer power supply is used, the dimmer wire is connected to the power board.

Follow the instructions above to set the monochrome bar. However, use a compatible controller instead of a dimmer to change the color and adjust the brightness of the light bar.

4. Use LED amplifiers for long distance stripping
Depending on the selected strip and its maximum operation (the number of strips that can be continuously installed before an amplifier is required), you will need to install LED amplifiers between 16 - or 32-foot strips. The amplifier needs to be powered by a line from the power supply.

There is a gap between my cabinets. Can your LED strip be cut off?
Is. Our LED strip can be cut to the length suitable for your application. Most of our LED strips can be cut after each set of three leds. At the end of these sections are cutting lines and welding points. If there is a gap between the cabinets due to Windows, stoves, refrigerators, etc., the lead at one end of the LED strip needs to be connected to the next part of the lead strip. The strip can be welded together or connected to our optical interconnect cable. It is best to purchase a strip that is longer than your application requires. For example, if your project requires an 8-1/2-foot strip, we recommend that you buy a 9-foot strip to make sure you have everything.
