What is Plug and Play LED Lighting?
May 06 2019
Retrofitting makes a lot of sense for many spaces. While the building itself is still useful for its intended industrial purpose, the lighting fixtures could use an update anyway for cost effectiveness, efficiency and safety reasons.
But what if the light fixture is fine but not compatible with the new bulb? Do they risk failing to save on bills and energy? This is plug and play LED lighting into... A place to play.
What are plug and play leds?
Many retrofitted bulbs require this because the lamps they use simply cannot handle them. Plug and play bulbs are intended for all lamps that can handle the new technology without overheating, short-circuting, or causing any other electrical problems with the lighting system. Use plug and play LED bulbs whenever possible.
What is the difference between plug and play and ballast bypass?
Ballast bypass means that the lighting fixtures have been changed so that ballasts are no longer needed. Instead of controlling the current flowing into the bulb through a ballast, it can use a direct power line and supply power directly.
For some people, this may be a good choice because it means that a ballast will never fail you, because it will never be needed. It can also save money because of the so-called "ballast factor". In some systems, the ballast loses some energy before it gets into the bulb.
However, the cost savings from using LED lighting will make up for any loss in ballast coefficients. Moreover, ballast bypass has many disadvantages.
Even from the beginning, the initial cost will increase. The ballast process requires certified electricians to perform the job, especially in industrial space. Depending on the quality of the light fixtures and wiring, this may not necessarily be a simple or quick task.
You may also need to replace expensive and inefficient sockets. Once the ballast bypass is complete, it may not even apply to all LED bulbs. This is because there is no industry standard for bypasses, so different bulbs may not be suitable for wiring different lamps.
This is why retrofitting is better than bypass ballasts. It may be a little expensive at first, but you'll benefit more from both short - and long-term results.
Why plug and play is the ideal choice
Retrofitting is a necessary task for many lighting systems, especially in older buildings. However, if you can choose plug and play LED lighting, then it is currently the most ideal choice.
The OEO EZ LED T8 is a plug and play direct replacement for T8 and T12 fluorescent bulbs. It can be installed directly on the jig without winding or modification. The only real downside is that the initial cost is a bit higher, but since you don't need a suitable electrician, you'll save this money anyway.
They plug directly from the production line, saving you money and energy. We are very concerned about the negative impact of ballast bypass to show you why plug and play is better at addressing these issues. We also have LED OMNI that can replace metal halides, and if you don't need strip lighting, there are many other things to read carefully.
Our plug-and-play direct replacement bulb comes with a 5-year warranty that saves up to 66% on energy consumption and lasts up to 50,000 hours. This means that no matter how easy it is to install, fewer replacements are required.
