Well, I've heard from you... Stop, leave that 'but I can't' thought. In this article, I'll show you how to easily set up LED lighting using the right products!
What does it take to create LED lights
Ever wanted to build an LED light? Now you can just use 2 parts!
With the increasing popularity of LED lighting, many people have studied and contacted me, asking how to make small LED lights, LED lights, LED panel lights, downlights and so on. This will begin to discuss the different components needed to complete the LED setup:
SMD LED or LED module
Constant current driver
AC/DC power supply
This list understandably confuses a newcomer and makes this cool lighting project look like a headache. Before stacking "Save for Later/Someone Else" into your project, you should know that there is a way to use all of these components for a simple light. The LED light engine requires only a power supply and a little imagination to create LED lights for small and large applications.
User-friendly LED - 'LED light engine '
What is LED light engine? It is the LED equivalent of a traditional lamp. The light engine is usually made up of light-emitting diodes (leds) mounted on a circuit board with electrical and mechanical fixtures, meaning it can be attached to a lamp.
Our LED light engine is designed to take the above list of components and combine them into one package. This removes the barrier to entry for people, like you, who want to design an LED lighting system without getting carried away. Sounds too good to be true? Design integrated LED lights
After receiving many calls and inquiries from LEDSupply, I realized that we need more LED light engines, which can be lit with constant 12-24vdc input. LED flexible strips are well suited for this use, but sometimes require more compact, direct and high-quality light.
I started working with LuxDrive to create LED lights that work this way. In our cooperation, I hope our new product has four main functions.
When using SMD LED lights, a constant current driver or current limiting resistor is required. The electrical properties of LED lights change as they heat up, and the actuators will ensure that the leds stay safe from absorbing too much current and eventually burn out.
Instead of using an external drive, the goal is to build a small onboard drive on an LED board. These small drivers act as variable resistors on the circuit board, so you can input a constant dc voltage (say 12 volts), and the device will limit the current allowed to flow through the circuit board.
There are three main ways:
On-board drives mean no external drives are required and cost about $10-15.
On-board drives are much smaller, allowing for more compact and discrete Settings.
Eliminates pressure to match the drive to the LED circuit.
You don't need a radiator
Cooling leds is another confusing area when you start using LED lighting. Leds typically have a lot of power flowing through very small sources, allowing heat to build up. Need a radiator to dissipate heat, remove it from the LED to avoid permanent damage.
Cooling is always a good idea, but the goal is to create small LED lights that only need power. Radiators tend to be bulky and add a lot of size to your setup. Since LuxDrive designed the LED panels, we made sure to test the temperature and make sure these LED light engines could run without any radiator.
Easy LED connection
"How do you connect multiple leds together?" This is a common problem I encounter every day. When using SMD LED lights, series or parallel circuits can be used. The two different wiring schemes will be very different from each other electronically.
Our goal was to create an LED that could be easily linked together in a Daisy chain. This makes it easy to connect parts because you need to worry about wattage and make sure your power source will provide enough power to the system.
Achieve high quality optical output at reasonable cost
Finally, it is very important to have an efficient and bright LED, which can guarantee the price of LED light engine. The last step took the most time because we had to find a diode that was efficient enough to output strong light without overwhelming the system.
LEDSupply makes most of its high-power leds, such as the Cree XP line and Luxeon Rebel leds. These leds contain a lot of light, but also can't be used for the products we want because:
Excessive power (heating) - high power LED operates at 350mA and above higher drive current. The high current required a larger driver, causing the LED module to overheat and require an LED radiator.
High cost - high power leds cost more and require expensive components to build a complete LED light engine. This will make prices too high, especially for those who want to use more than one lamp.
Conclusion: medium power LED is used
High power leds are impossible because the higher current leads to too much heat and overall cost. This LED us to cheaper, low-current leds. Our search brought in medium power LED.
Medium-power leds operate at lower drive currents: up to 180mA, while high-power diodes have a maximum of 1000 + mA. LED is also about 1/10 of the price! Medium-power leds are not as bright, but their low power consumption and low cost make it possible to add multiple diodes to a circuit board, making them comparable to high-power LED outputs.
Nichia 757 - LED to make this happen
Nichia 757 is the most attractive medium power LED. Considering the price and low power limit, the light output is excellent. LuxDrive began testing a mid-power diode built into the PCB using an onboard driver.
Testing brought positive results and successfully achieved all of our goals. This brings LEDSupply with two groundbreaking new products. The LED light engine below has all four of the features we need. These help create user-friendly leds: on-board drives, no heat dissipation, easy connection and high-quality light output.
The DynaSquare is a discrete 12-volt LED light, which is extremely convenient to use. 1 "square PCB can accommodate 3 Nichia 757 medium power LED. Light output can be increased to 150 lumens using multiple medium power diodes, comparable to high power 1-up leds. DynaSquare is ideal for luminaries and luminaire applications as well as LED panel and display lighting.
DynaSquare offers white, CCT ranges from 2700K to 6500K. Colors are available in red, yellow, blue and green. Perhaps the most exciting options are Horticulture 3000K and DynaSquares 5000K. Gardening DynaSquares USES molds with a very wide spectrum, making them ideal for growing plants. Be sure to check the lights on this small growth application.
Connect multiple leds together - create your own circuit!
DynaSquare aims to make easy connections between the boards. The square plate has pads on each side of the four sides. This allows you to input power on one side of the DynaSquare, and then connect multiple leds on either side of the three sides to a Daisy chain, as shown below. This gives you the flexibility to move the board anywhere your application needs it. Please contact our LEDSupply before linking more than 20 DynaSquares together.
DynaSquare can also be connected in parallel to your power supply, as shown below. Also, there is no limit to the number of power connections.
DynaSquare is usually powered at 12 volts, but can accept 11-15VDC. This gives you the option to use simple AC/DC power or even battery power! The single DynaSquare runs at 1.5 watts. The output is 150 lumens, which is a high power LED, about 100 lumens per watt!
To find power, make sure the wattage is covered. For a DynaSquare, this would be easy. If multiple leds are to be connected, whether Daisy chains or in parallel, make sure the power supply meets the requirements. (1.5 watts per DynaSquare)

Duo-high brightness LED light bar
DUO is a 24V LED bar, which is the brightest LED bar in our field. The flow rate is over 100 lumens per watt! Duo USES the latest technology for medium-power leds, with 48 Nichia 757 diodes on a 12-inch rigid strip. Double-row LED strips produce 870 lumens per foot, and the LED density is high, so the light presents a smooth, high-quality linear output.
DUO LED strips are white with CCTS ranging from 2700K to 6500K. Colors are available in red, yellow, blue and green. Perhaps the most exciting option is Horticulture 3000K and 5000K bands. The gardening option USES the Nichia 757 diode with a very wide output spectrum. This broad-spectrum product is ideal for growing plants and is ideal for starting seedlings and growing plants indoors.
Duo is 12 inches long and.95 inches wide. The modular strip design allows you to cut it into smaller pieces. There is a dotted black line every 3 inches that you can cut into one or more LED light engines.
When cutting your own tape, be careful to cut along the dotted line. Sturdy scissors, paper cutters or large wire cutters usually work best. If you want to leave the cutting to us, in addition to the standard 12-inch strip, we also offer 3-inch, 6-inch and 9-inch strips.
Connect the LED strip
Duo's creation allows multiple bands to be connected by a Daisy chain. The number of Daisy chain connected LED strips should not exceed 8 complete "12" panels. In other words, do not connect strips that are larger than 8 feet.
Duo USES a 24V input that can come from an AC/DC power source or a battery power source. A 12-inch piece is 7.68 watts (1.92w for every 3-inch piece). At this wattage, the strip will output 870 lumens... That's 113 lumens per watt! This high brightness Strip provides maximum efficiency (lumen/watt) throughout the LEDSupply Strip lamp series.
When the power supply is found, ensure that the power supply outputs 24VDC and ensure that the total wattage is calculated.
