Shed Accessories - What is Available?

There are many products which allow you to add features to your garden buildings to add security, lighting or weather protection. If you have a shed that needs something extra, listed below are some of the most commonly used shed accessories.
Tanalised Shed Flooring
This is a process of impregnating wood at high pressure with a mixture of chemicals that protect the wood from decay and infestation. While exterior wood is normally treated before construction, tantalised flooring is normally an optional extra. As garden buildings are exposed to the elements all of the time, damp can soften the flooring and insects such as termites can also cause weak points. Tanalising prevents this by making the flooring tougher and inhospitable.
Shed Weather Proofing
In almost all cases sheds are supplied with pre-treated exterior wood. After a year or so the weather proof coating will need to be renewed. Protek offer a wood stain which is water based so it is non toxic and can be purchased in a range of colours.
Shed Lighting Accessories
Where it is possible to get a supply of mains electricity into the shed a common solution to the shed lighting problem is simply to fit fluorescent strip lights. This is not always viable if a supply of mains electricity is not readily available. Instead there is a solar lighting solution which simply uses a solar panel on the roof to charge a battery.
Shed Security Accessories
These are some of the most essential shed accessories as protecting the contents of your shed is the next consideration after making sure they will remain dry. There are several solutions to the security problem that are readily available. Additional locks are the first port of call to ensuring your shed contents remains secure. These should be fitted to the sturdiest part of the door. If there is no suitably strong section of the door to add locks, reinforcing the door before adding the lock will add to the robustness. Shrouded locks make it difficult to open padlocks by force while opening them legitimately is just as easy. The shroud over the padlock prevents tools such as bolt cutters from getting hold of it.
Shed alarms are another popular choice. These can be mains powered or battery operated and can be deactivated using a key or code. By simply connecting the alarm contacts to any opening windows or doors you can ensure that any attempts to access the shed by force will be met with a siren.
