Above-Cabinet and Under-Cabinet LED Lighting: How to Install LED Strip Lights

Installing the top and bottom LED strip lighting is the perfect way to create usable task lighting or add color to your kitchen. Monochrome as well as color-changing RGB, RGBW and adjustable white LED strips are available in waterproof, weatherproof and indoor versions to meet any needs. Use a remote control, a smartphone or tablet to control them, and easily install them using the adhesive backing.

Before you are able to install the upper cabinet and the lower LED strip, please estimate the consumables you need and the amount of consumables you need. Plan your own ribbon installation using the information and consumables from this sample installation. Draw it if it helps, or make a list by region. Check how many cabinet connections you have, and the number of connections from one strip section to another strip section or part of an attached wire.

Larger items such as power supplies, controllers and power cords are easiest to remember; This is a negligible thing. To determine what you need, it is important to plan what you will do for each part of the process - from connecting to a power outlet and connecting power to a connector bar to the controller and to each other and around obstacles such as Windows or stoves. Small items can range from a double-sided gasket for the controller and junction box to a cable strap/strap mounting base for securing wires or connectors.

Installation of LED lighting in the cabinet
1. First measure the space under the cabinet to determine how much strip lighting you need. Do not include case lip in these measurements. We are installing RGBW strips with RGBW compatible controllers, wires and connectors. Different strips (monochrome, RGB, RGBW and adjustable white) will require different accessories and wires. Monochrome and adjustable white LED strips require 2 cores for the lamp, 4 cores for the RGB strip and 5 cores for the RGBW strip.

To determine additional wire length, measure gaps without bands, such as microwave ovens, stoves, Windows, dips, drops, and turns. The mistake was more extra wiring.

The length of the strip you purchase will help you determine the power you need.

Select a power supply with the same voltage as the above cabinet and the LED strip in the cabinet. Ensure that the total wattage of the LED strip is at least 20% lower than the wattage rating of the power supply. Usually watt-hours per foot are given, which can be found in the strip's product specification sheet.

For example, if your LED strip requires 80 watts to operate, you need a power supply rated at least 96 watts.

Take the length of the LED bar in feet, multiply it by the wattage per foot, and multiply it by 1.2. This number indicates that the power supply must be rated at a minimum power to run the length of the LED strip.

2. Find the power outlet you want to use, or decide whether to hardwire the light strip below and above the cabinet. Different options, such as using a CPS plug and play power supply and a CPS strip adapter, can be used depending on the strip you choose and your preferred method of power supply. In this case, we connect the plug to the power supply and supply power from the socket behind the refrigerator.

Drill a hole large enough to run the power cord through the bottom of the nearest cabinet. Run the tail end of the power cord through the base of the cabinet.

3. Put the power into the cabinet. Plug the black and white power cord into a separate quick connector. Insert the brown power cord into the connector for the black power cord. Insert the blue supply neutral wire into the connector for the white supply neutral wire. Use a wire nut to close the end of the green ground wire.

4. Connect the red and black wires of the power supply to the controller, and then tighten the screws to fix it in place.

5. Drill a hole in the middle of the cabinet overhang and connect the first section of steel belt line to the controller. If desired, extend the wire by adding additional power cords with nuts or terminals.

6. Drill a hole at the bottom of the cabinet where the controller is, and then feed the ribbon line into the controller.

7. Insert the strip wires into the appropriate position on the controller and fix them in place.

9. Strip off the strip's sticky backing and clip the tail fiber connector to its end. Insert the end of the connector wire into the junction box and the compatible wire into the other side of the junction box. Make sure the color matches the color that is aligned on the opposite side of the phase.

The terminal block used in this installation can be cut in half and used for both connection points. In addition to using terminals, there are several ways to connect wires of similar colors. You can weld them or use wire nuts or quick-connect terminals.

Paste the tape on your cabinet.

11. Install the junction box to the bottom of the cabinet using double-sided foam pads.

12. Stick the straps to the base of your microwave and use them to hold the cable straps in place.

13. Connect the wire to the next cabinet and cut the wire. Connect the end of the wire to the junction box, and connect the end of the tail fiber connector to the other side of the block, as done at the end of the first cabinet. Clip the connector to the next strip.

14. Use double-sided foam pad to install the junction box.

15. Stretch the strip to the end of the cabinet and cut on the designated cutting line as close as possible to the end of the cabinet. Make room for compatible interconnect jumpers.

Paste the tape on your cabinet.

18. Since the cabinet in this device needs to rotate by 90 degrees, and the previous strip is located in the middle of the cabinet, we installed a small strip at the back of the next cabinet. Connect the end of the previous strip to the beginning of the current strip using an interconnect jumper. Install another interconnect jumper to the end of the current strip. Use the cable tie belt retainer to fix the connector wiring on the cabinet.

Paste the tape on the back corner of the cabinet.

20. Clip the other end of the connector to the beginning of the new ribbon section.

21. Strip off the adhesive backing of the strip and attach all parts except the end of the strip to the cabinet. Cut as close as possible to the specified cutting line at the end of the cabinet, but leave room for the tailfin connector.

Clip the tail connector to the end of the strip and connect the wire from the bottom to the cabinet.

24. In the cabinet, insert the end of the connector wire into the terminal box. Insert a wire from the side of the cabinet (long enough to cover the window gap and feed into the next cabinet) and secure it to the other side of the junction box. Match colors.

25. Install the terminal box inside the cabinet with double-sided foam pads.

26. Secure wires to walls and windowsills using cable ties or 3M clips. You can easily cover Windows with wires and clips using paint, curtains, blinds, or cable ducts.

Another way to overcome this obstacle is to run strips on either side of the window. This method will eliminate the need to run extra wires on the window, but it will require another power source, a power source, and a controller.

27. Repeat these steps when you reach the first cabinet after the clearance. Cut off any unnecessary wires

Upper cabinet lighting installation
1. Drill a hole at the top of the cabinet where the power supply is located.

2. Connect the additional controller to the power supply using a two-core power cord. Plug the power cord into the controller above the cabinet. Run the power cord through the top of the cabinet and plug it into the terminal of the power cord on another controller. You are using the terminal of the LED lighting controller in the cabinet to connect the two controllers to the power supply.

Add a second controller to your upper cabinet lighting strip, which you can control independently of each other and your lower cabinet LED lighting strip. You can use one controller to control two groups of lights; Just use the area button.

3. If necessary, paste the controller on the top of the cabinet with double-sided foam pads.

There is no need to use interconnect jumpers at each cabinet connection. You can simply run strips at intersections. However, the strips can be seen from different vantage points in the room. Put down your strips and look at them from a distance to make sure you like how they look across the intersection.

6. Strip the strip's sticky backing and clamp the interconnect jumper.

7. Paste the strip onto the cabinet and clip the other end of the interconnect jumper onto the next strip.
