A LED floodlight is a source of high quality light, designed to either flood or spot a location with light. They can be used as area lights, security lighting, parking lot lights and perimeter lighting. These lights have several benefits to offer customers, especially when compared to HID, Metal-Halide and HPS lighting.
1. Longevity
LED, in general, are designed to last a very long time. It is not uncommon to see rated life spans of 100,000 hours and 10 year warranties. Compared to standard HID bulbs, LEDs can easily last 5X longer. Once you install aLED flood light, it should give you years of great operations and high quality light. Lumen degradation is very slow compared to HID. They dim gradually.
2. Energy Savings
LED lights can save you 50-75% over their HID counterparts. It increases when controls such as photocells and motion sensors are used. It may make sense for you to dim a flood light when no one is around, and have it pop back to full brightness when it detects motion. LED saves you money, dimming saves you even more!
3. Low Maintenance Costs
Flood Lights (LED) are tough, durable and long lasting. They are designed to last 10+ years. If you use your flood lights outdoors, and on average 12 hours a night, it is not unreasonable to think you can get 15-20 years of operating life out of your LED fixtures. Without having to maintain the bulbs. Calculate the number of bulb and ballast changes you would have to make if you stuck with HID!
4. Higher Quality of Light
The quality of LED Light, measured as CRI, is typically higher than the HID counterparts they replace. This means safer areas, and better lit. Compare a LED light to HPS. There is no comparison.
5. Durable in Extreme or Changing Weather
LED FloodLights are mostly impervious to temperature fluctuations and environmental conditions. With proper design, lights can be installed in hot and cold environments without issue.
