How LED Lighting is Best for Indoor Swimming Pools

Indoor swimming pools require serious amounts of maintenance. Whether it is used as a community public pool, a specialized training pool for sports or even adapted pools for film and TV, they need to be kept in good order for many reasons.

Despite their industrial scale, LED lighting offers many benefits. Let OEO tell you how.

The safety advantages of LED lamps

If you think of underwater lighting in a swimming pool, you might think of a few spotlights in your neighbor's hot tub. For industrial-scale swimming pools, however, cosmetic lights are much lower on the priority list.

If the pool needs it, underwater LED lights need to be very durable and safe. Compact fluorescent bulbs and metal halide bulbs are called gas discharge lamps. This means that they generate light by passing an electric charge through the ionized gas. The latter is more effective than incandescent bulbs. But they are harder to make and maintain.

The use of gas emissions is a hazard because fixtures need to be reinforced to the point that water pressure does not break their standards or cause failure. In swimming pools with all water, lighting needs to be especially safe because the current entering the pool can be deadly.

Another hidden safety advantage is the quality of LED lights. By providing blue and white light to the inner space, they can help athletes maintain endurance without getting tired from night training. The lack of lumen depreciation means it also takes longer.

Suitable for large space LED lighting

There are other problems with olympic-size pools and large industrial-size pools. The lights in these Spaces need to fill the entire area, both horizontally and vertically. This allows swimmers to see the area around the pool not only in terms of health and safety. That's why underwater visibility is so clear.

Light bulbs like the high-canopy LED can tilt the light so that it fills the space from above, but does so to the maximum. This is especially important in swimming pools with high diving boards.

However, these high ceilings have another important factor to consider. The water in the pool evaporates, especially when exposed to the sun at high temperatures. Evaporation loses up to 50,000 gallons of water a year in a standard home pool. In industrial-scale swimming pools, there are many more.

As a result, the whole building is damp and the water needs to get somewhere. With the safety of LED lighting fixtures, it does not enter the light and short-circuit it or make it worse. Because of their energy efficiency, you can also more easily adjust the temperature, which means less waste in terms of heat loss.

Install LED lights in the pool

Many swimming pools are housed in old buildings. Whether it's a former upper bathroom or just a converted space large enough to accommodate a swimming pool, installing new lighting systems is often important.

LED lights are best suited for retrofitting old lamps or even using plug-and-play bulbs, which can be installed directly and cost the least to install. This is useful for older buildings that want to take advantage of higher cost-effectiveness, greater energy efficiency and lower overhead costs. Although we mentioned these three points briefly, they are not small and can greatly benefit from large swimming pools, which are often threatened with closure.
