Why Consistent Light is Important for Industrial Lighting

In various industries, the careful balance of all working elements is understandably focused on production, processing or whatever commercial use for which the space is intended. This also includes safety, productivity and efficiency. Such a balance will require its own system of checks and protections to be maintained.

One of the most important ways to ensure this balance is adequate lighting, and one of the most overlooked aspects is consistency. Here, OEO tells you why consistency is so important and why LED lighting won't disappoint.

Consistent light ensures consistent products

If you create something in industry, there's a lot of duplication. Whether you work in a steel plant or an automobile production line, the processes used to produce products have been honed and improved over the years.

This does not mean that production will necessarily become easier over time. Sure, workers can become more skilled, but the repetitive process can also have its own stresses. You need to create 1,000,000 product versions using the same parameters as version 1. If your lighting system is inconsistent, it affects the output in subtle rather than subtle ways.

Consistent light ensures productivity

When working in an industrial environment, the state of the workers is critical. If workers are tired or overwhelmed, products and productivity suffer.

Light affects the body in very important ways. If we don't have the right light at the right time, it can cause us to disrupt our circadian rhythms. The result is tiredness, slowing down and often inefficiency. Consistent light is no guarantee that it won't replace the necessary sleep, but it will help provide an environment that keeps us alert and productive.

Lighting is also crucial to ensure that workers are able to perform very detailed and specific tasks. If light is reduced or changed over time, it can lead to costly errors.

Consistent light ensures safety

Uniform light does not necessarily mean uniform light. Lamps used with LED lighting can be manipulated and programmed to provide different light at different times of day and for different specific purposes.

This helps keep workers healthy, thus avoiding mistakes and reducing the likelihood of accidents.

The uniform light caused the bill to fall

Lumen depreciation is the gradual reduction of any given lighting system. A lumen is a unit of measurement for a light source. Over time, many lighting devices such as metal halide bulbs or high pressure sodium lamps lose their light output. They do so because the limited materials that remain in their shells become expensive.

LED lighting keeps the light the same because it doesn't use electricity in the same way. High intensity discharge lamps such as metal halides and high pressure sodium lamps require a great deal of electrical energy to produce this intensity. Metallic compounds and inert gases burn throughout the life of the bulb and are generally used to reduce lumens. LED lighting USES more efficient technology and does not require so much energy. This means less monthly bills, but it also means more durable and consistent lighting solutions. The result is money saved and is often more commercially viable than rival lighting technologies.
